Crystal Skillman - Reading, Discussion and Signing

The Drama Book Shop is pleased to welcome acclaimed playwright and theatre-maker Crystal Skillman for a discussion, reading and signing of her work on Thursday, June 15th, 2017. The 5:00pm event is free and open to the public.

Join Skillman for a reading from her latest play Wild, just published by Chicago Dramaworks. Hosted by playwright Steven McCasland (Little Wars) and featuring original NYC cast members Hunter Canning, Jeff Ronan, David Armanino, Joshua Levine, and Diana Stahl, the special event will be followed by a signing. In Wild, one night’s infidelity sets a chain of events into motion that causes Peter and Bobby’s life to implode. Set on the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago, Wild is a play about relationships and the destructive and healing powers of love. Crystal Skillman is the author of Geek, Cut, and King Kirby (co-written with Fred Van Lente). Her new play The Test opens as part of Great Again in the WIT festival Off Broadway at ART NY, running all of June.

She is the author of the plays Geek, Cut, and King Kirby (co-written with frequent co-writer Fred Van Lente), all critics picks from the NY Times. She is the musical theater book writer of Mary and Max, based on the film, written with Award Winning ASCAP Composer/Lyricist Bobby Cronin, in development with director Stafford Arima, as well as The Cover, featuring Ali Stroker. She will make her Off-Broadway debut with a new play commission, The Test, at A.R.T./NY this summer (Project Y Commission). Plays include: Rain and Zoe Save the World (Currently a 2017 O’Neill Semi-Finalist, 2017 Blue Ink Award Finalist Winner, 2016 New Harmony Project, 2016 Oregon Performance Lab), Pulp Vérité (2016 BAPF Finalist, 2015 Clifford Odets Ensemble Play Commission,), as well as Another Kind of Love, a punk rock play (Chopin Theater with InFusion Theatre Co., 2015, Chicago) hailed by the Chicago Reader as a “Masterpiece”. Awards include two Ensemble Studio Theater/Alfred P. Sloan commissions, as well as the New York Innovation Award (Outstanding Full Length Play forThe Vigil or the Guided Cradle). TV/Film includes original pilots Paper Heroes, Blue Book, Crooked Land, co-written with Fred Van Lente, and the screenplay Drunk Art Love. She is currently writing an issue of Adventure Time for Boom! Studios with Fred. Crystal is represented for theatrical by Abrams Artists Agency in NY, Shepard Management for the UK, and UTA for TV/Film.
