The Drama Book Shop is pleased to welcome author Yvette Heyliger for a discussion and signing of her new collection of full length plays for women, What a Piece of Work is Man! The Monday, September 18th, 5:00pm event is free and open to the public. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

What a Piece of Work Is Man!  Full-Length Plays for Leading Women, written by dramatist Yvette Heyliger and edited by Alexis Greene, delivers a power-packed collection of plays for leading women (and the leading men who love them!). Great for professional actors, directors, designers and producers seeking new projects, as well as students of the theatre, and lovers of politics, drama and activism! Artistic essays, critical reviews, production cast lists, as well as lead sheet music and photographs, illuminate the work of this producing artist and educator.

Yvette Heyliger, author of What a Piece of Work Is Man! Full-Length Plays for Leading Women edited by Alexis Greene, is the recipient of the AUDELCO Recognition Award for Excellence in Black Theatre's August Wilson Playwright Award and a Best Playwright nomination from the NAACP’s Annual Theatre Awards. Recently her monologue, On the Brink of Middle Age, was selected by Applause Books for Later Chapters: The Best Scenes and Monologues for Actors Over 50 which was first published in Reproductive Freedom Festival Plays by Indie Theatre Now. After many years in front of the footlights as a playwright, Yvette returned to the stage in her first one-woman show, Bridge to Baraka, also published by Indie Theater Now. Selections from her play, Autobiography of a Homegirl, appear in Smith and Kraus’ The Best Women’s Stage Monologues 2003 and The Best Stage Scenes 2003. Heyliger has written articles for various online magazines and journals including: HowlRound, The Dramatist, Continuum and Black Masks. A producing artist/partner in Twinbiz™, she is the co-recipient of the first National Black Theatre Festival Emerging Producer Award. Yvette lives in Harlem, USA, and is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild.
